AQHA Director Emeritus Genevieve Jessie Matheson died on June 25. She was an AQHA director for British Columbia from 1983 until 1994, when she was elevated to director emeritus.
During this period she was instrumental in organizing the American Quarter Horse Youth World Cup competition, restructuring the British Columbia Quarter Horse Association, lobbying against US/Canada border crossing bonds, assisting in the Canadian Equestrian Federation (now Equestrian Canada) coaching programs, lobbying to encourage maintaining AQHA registrations on all American Quarter Horses in Canada, while performing her duties as Director of Horse Council of BC, BCQHA, CQHA and AQHA.
In addition to being active in the equine industry, she belonged to numerous organizations throughout her life, most notably the New Westminster YM/YWCA (president 1976-77), Langley Home Support Service Society and the Maple Beach Property Owners Association.
She was predeceased by her husband Alexander “Brud” Matheson.
She is survived by her sons Rod (Alyson), John (Joanne), and daughter Jean (Gord), grandchildren Stephanie, Andrew, Jennifer, Lesley, Kendrick, Mackenzie and great-granddaughter Elle.
