AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Manager of Information Technology Projects position with the American Quarter Horse Association. The candidate will work out of the International headquarters located in Amarillo, Texas.


The Manager of Information Technology Projects is responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing projects according to AQHA’s needs and budget. The position will be responsible for acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of the team to deliver projects according to plan.  He or she will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.  The Project Manager helps translate business requirements into technology requirements for inclusion in contracts and/or statements of work (SOW).


  • Create, maintain, and execute project plans to meet changing needs and requirements.

  • Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards.

  • Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures.

  • Minimizes our exposure and risk on project.

  • Ensures project documents are complete and current.

  • Tracks and reports team hours and expenses on a weekly basis.

  • Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential application on client engagements.

  • Sets and manages client expectations.

  • Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships.

  • Builds a knowledge base of AQHA’s business, organization and objectives.


  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a four-year degree (MIS or Technical degree preferred).

  • Have demonstrated corporate project management experience.

  • PMP certification is preferred.

  • Candidates must have excellent organization, communication, Project Management, negotiation and problem solving skills, and a proven understanding of corporate business needs.

  • The role requires both deep project management experience and broad technology knowledge with the ability to facilitate the architecting of solutions by mapping common customer business problems to reusable end-to-end technology solutions.

  • Have demonstrated the ability to engage in senior level business and technology decision maker discussions related to agility, business value, and end to end technology projects.

  • Experience using Agile methodology, and an understanding of software development and quality assurance methodologies.

AQHA is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the Manager of International Activities position with the American Quarter Horse Association. The candidate will work out of the International headquarters located in Amarillo, Texas.


Plan, direct, or coordinate international activities and functions within the Association.  Serve as liaison between AQHA and the Foreign Agriculture Service concerning the cooperator contract between AQHA and FAS. Maintain and evolve AQHA's leading international market position by continuously examining, locating, developing, and defining International business relationships.


  • In conjunction with the Chief International Officer, implement marketing and communication strategies and tactics in key international markets. Such strategies must support AQHA’s international objectives and position the American Quarter Horse as the preferred breed on a global basis. Determine and implement highly effective channels to optimize communication across global markets and work closely with affiliates and members across the globe

  • Identify and promote AQHA’s core business services (such as transfers and the value of a transferred horse, registration, membership, etc.). Play a role in developing strategies for core and new product/service offerings that help educate international markets on AQHA’s services and procedures.

  • Make recommendations that can help streamline services for AQHA international members, including ongoing examination of various rules that impede international growth and make appropriate recommendations regarding various rule changes.

  • Implement marketing programs for AQHA’s major international events. Implement methods to promote American Quarter Horses at existing international events where American Quarter Horses are the dominant breed.

  • Work closely with AQHA international affiliates in order to grow ownership and use of American Quarter Horses throughout the world. With affiliates, identify barriers to ownership and evaluate the competitive landscape in order to make recommendations on ways AQHA can address such barriers in order to achieve international growth.

  • Help coordinate and promote educational seminars, clinics and functions in international markets in order to maximize attendance and membership in AQHA.

  • Represent AQHA at key international events with the goal of promoting the American Quarter Horse, AQHA services and establishing the American Quarter Horse as the preferred breed on a global basis.

  • Coordinate with outside entities that can assist in AQHA’s growth internationally and build collaborative programs that will lead to international growth and participation of international members. Such entities include but are not limited to U.S. Department of Agriculture and appropriate subsidiaries; international sales agents; and other livestock groups with similar international growth strategies.

  • Oversee processes related to and use of Business Plan Funding and funding secured through USLGE.

  • Serve as staff liaison to AQHA International committee.


• Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred

• Experience with business development, marketing, and/or international travel and business

• In-depth knowledge of AQHA and the equine industry

• Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with customers from a wide variety of cultures
